From time to time, we may make references to the hit show on CBS, “How I Met Your Mother,” or HIMYM (pronounced Him-Ihm) not only because we like it, but also because it covers very applicable topics to Rumidate. For example, the Three Day Rule (if you get a girl’s number, you have to wait three days to call her) and first date turn-offs were brought up on last week’s episode. So we thought it would be a good idea to give you a little introduction to the show if you’ve never seen it or don’t watch it regularly.
The whole premise of HIMYM is that Future Ted Mosby (played by Bob Saget’s voice, seriously) relives his late 20’s by telling his two children in the year 2030 how he met their mother. Each episode recounts a specific story or series of events that happened to Ted and his crew, Marshall Eriksen, Robin Scherbatsky, Barney Stinson and Lily Aldrin. There are a ton of inside jokes, flashbacks, a few flash forwards and pop culture references, while the show basically mimicks what life is like for many 20 somethings who live in a major city and have a close group of friends. HIMYM covers the characters’ personal lives just as much as it covers their work lives (similar to reality). There’s a couple who have been together since freshmen year of college and eventually get married, a perpetually single guy who sleeps with any attractive girl he sees, a nice guy who can never get it right and a girl who has no idea what she wants both personally and professionally.
